Last day at St. Norbert Market

Well the season ends at St. Norbert with our Halloween day, many including myself dressed for the event. Some as puppy dogs, some as jesters, some as hamburgers and jail birds! Me well ..you guessed it a bar of bubbly soap! We all had a great day and lots of laughs. Enjoyed seeing lots of my regular St. Norbert customers come by to purchase more soap for Christmas gifts. Natural vs Commercial Soap

With the trend leaning towards more natural and biodegradable skin care, natural soap is a logical choice. With our 100% natural line your assured that there are no harmful chemicals or additives. Many of today's commercial soaps, even those you think mild, are full of Sodium Tallowate (animal fats) and Sodium Laurel Sulfates or Sodium Laureth Sulfates that are very harmful to our health over time. These often being the number one ingredient in the majority of soap bars, shower gels and shampoos. Most commercial soap is derived from petroleum products and are very drying to the skin. Natural soaps are rich in anti-oxidants, minerals and vitamins. Our skin is the largest organ and first line of defense against germs and bacteria for our bodies, using a natural soap is added reassurance knowing that it can benefit our overall health.

Natural handcrafted soaps are made with 100% vegetable oils such as, Olive, Coconut, Palm, Sunflower, Hemp, Soya or Canola Oils and are a great alternative to the drying commercial soaps on the market. When super fatted with extra skin conditioning oils such as, Castor Oil and Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter the bar becomes a moisture rich lathery gentle soap rich in minerals and nutrients to prevent dry itchy problem skin. Other ingredients added to the natural soap can include exfoliants like poppy seed, oatmeal, herbs, flowers, teas, psyllium husks, also honey, clays, aloe vera, goat milk can be added to sooth skin and essential oils to add a nice therapeutic aroma with natural benefits to our overall health. Natural soaps can be colored naturally using a variety of ingredients including, Clays, mineral pigments, oxides, ultramarine minerals and mica as wells as herbs and spices.

Some people are concerned over the use of lye or Sodium Hydroxide which is the only way soap can be made and has been made since Ancient Roman times. Sodium Hydroxide is used to neutralize acids which is derived from natural sources, it initiates the process of saponification which is the chemical reaction that occurs when the fats or oils become glycerine and thus making soap. When processed correctly, the final product will not contain any lye and then the soap is cured for many weeks to ensure the ph levels neutralize, making a mild soap. With natural soaps you are left with a chemical free and biodegradable product that enhances skins texture and leaves your skin feeling and looking healthy!

How to make Lavender Lotion

How do you make Lotion? I use a blend of vegetable oils and natural beeswax, so those are melted together while I heat up the distilled water infused with Calendula and Yarrow. When the temperature is right I blend them together and add the Lavender Essential Oil and viola....Lavender Lotion...and lots of it for those that wish to moisturize thier skin and relax thier minds with the wonderful aroma of Lavender or sooth themselves into a deep sleep! My day at the Museum

Hi...today is my day at the Mennonite Heritage Museum in Steinbach, new to the area I was invited as a crafter in the Museum General Store, off course I was excited to display my Soap. Each crafter in the store spends a few days a month volunteering there time at the store. It's been an exciting little outing as I get to meet people from all over who pass thru to visit the museum from all over the world. I've enjoyed selling my soaps there and chatting with new people. So today is my last day of the year as the Museum will be closed for the season this month...I'll miss it! Spa Cakes will still of course be available in Steinbach at Good'n Natural.
